The Lloyd Hotel building in Amsterdam has endured many types of steps up and down its staircases over the last hundred years… from the weary tramping of eastern European immigrants on their way to South America in the 1920’s to the forced trudging of juvenile prisoners to the covert ambling of squatting artists, and now after its transformation into a hotel and cultural embassy in 2004, to the pleasant wanderings of unhurried hotel guests…
21st century curves of ARCAM - Amsterdam Centre for Architecture - completed in 2003 by the firm of René van Zuuk (1962-) and the earlier 20th century curves of the Hoefijzer Jan Willem Brouwersstraat 3-25 apartment building (1925-29) in the Amsterdam School style by Ernst Roest (1875-1952)
